TWILIGHT
Hey Girls! Kim M and I (S) were thinking it would be fun to have a girls' night and go see the Twilight movie with whoever wants to. It might be too late to go opening weekend but maybe the next weekend or whenever everyone can. Leave a comment on here or give either one of us a call to let us know if you want to come. We think it would be a fun way to get together because we miss you all so so much! Hope everyone is doing well and that we will see each other soon.

Fluoride = Poison?

Kim Swain here and I have an experience to share.
I am always amazed at the astounding ignorance of Utah County citizens when it comes to the subject of water fluoridation. So I was at church this morning and one of the ladies in my ward told me that she can no longer fill her prescription for fluoride supplement tablets for her children at the pharmacy. Why?? Because almost every other area of the country except Utah County has fluoridated water and the extra supplements are no longer being produced.
I just find it ironic that the place with the highest concentration of Mormons in the entire world, the nucleus of super-moms is so ignorant and backwards on the subject of oral health. We are supposed to take care of childrens' physical well-being, right? And we have more kids here than almost anywhere. Yet, it's a government conspiracy and unsafe to add Fluoride to our public water sources. Even though it is the most cost effective cavity prevention and reaches the at risk population the best out of any method available. It is toxic and unnatural and they don't want it.
We all hear stories all the time about moms taking their kids to the dentist and finding out his teeth are rotting out of his head and the traumatic dental experiences that follow. Of course, putting fluoride in the water isn't a cure all but we all know many of those horrible experiences could be avoided if people here would just realize what the rest of the country has already figured out.
Ok, obviously this is a sore subject for me and gets me very irate and I just wanted to rate to people who understand what I'm talking about.

Funny

So... I usually wind down by reading my friends' blogs on my Google Reader. After watching The Office tonight, I thought I would do just that. Then I got to thinking: I wonder if there are hygienists out there blogging about their calculus-filled lives. So I googled "dental hygiene blog."

Judging by the links I found, I think Weber must require their students to blog about EVERY clinic experience! Man, I would've thrown a fit. Talk about pointless. As if we didn't have to document enough on a mountain of paperwork. I'm glad they didn't make us write about our feelings on a public network. Man oh man.

Here is a link that supplies an inside look into Weber hygiene alumni. Mostly boring, but there are some interesting tid-bits. One girl had to retake the NBDHE because she and another girl had too similar of wrong answers. Talk about bad karma.

Pictures!

Hello everyone! Hope you're all working and happy!
I've meant to put an ultrasound picture up for awhile, and now I finally remembered! This is the little squirt that keeps kicking and punching me. In fact she just did it again right this moment. I like to mess with her when she does by flexing my tummy muscles. She usually kicks me after. Apparently she's as fiesty as I am!

I swear my belly has doubled in the last month! And I really don't have that much of a double chin...Ray was on the floor when he took that!

Aren't these the cutest little shoes! I had to buy them! I figure she'll be born in January and we don't want her feet to get cold, right?

Funny Blog Post

I just happened along this blog last night. She wrote a funny post about taking her 4 year old daughter to the dentist for a prophy. Anyway, there is some language in it, but I thought it was funny.

Anyway, it is funny to catch a personal glimpse into our profession from the patients viewpoint. I'm sure we have all worked with children like this.
